Today was a Mommy and Logan day. We had a wonderful day. Logan knew a little about what we were doing so when he first woke up he was asking me if his Papaw was coming here to drive the boat! He of course didn't know there was a difference in a canoe and a bass boat! When I told him no he wanted to know who would be "driving the boat." Our FRG was hosting a flotilla. Meaning we would float/paddle our way down the Chena River. Although I've been in the water and little flat bottom boats more times than I can count it was my first time in a canoe. We floated down the river from post to Pioneer Park which they told us was about 3 1/2 miles. I would have loved to have gone longer. Logan did great for having to pretty much sit really still for 2 hours. I was so proud of him. Other than leaning over to put his fingers in the water he just sat there and enjoyed the scenery. I was scared to take my new, good camera because I knew that somehow I would manage to drop it in the water. So I bought Logan a little water proof camera. Well he had managed to take all the pictures before we were half way down and I'm pretty sure most of them are nothing. Especially when you hear "Mom, I'm going to take a picture of the numbers on your back!" He was talking about some writing that was written on the back of my life vest. I will try to get that developed tomorrow and post those when I get them. Some of the girls in the other canoes took pictures of us to so I'm excited to see those as well. Another little boy a little older than Logan was in the canoe with us along with his mom. So a total of two kids and two adults. It was so relaxing but a workout at the same time. I walk miles a day (I'm really not kidding I should wear a pedometer!) at work but my arms rarely get any exercise other than carrying little boys. So I'm sure I will be a little stiff in the morning after all my paddling! But it was worth it and Logan and I got to experience a "first" for both of us together!
Me and my little Peanut before we headed out to the water!
We unloaded at Pioneer Park and after riding to get my car and back we started up the grills for the cookout. I volunteered to be the grill girl! What can we say, when the hubbies are gone we wives know how to take charge! I got those grills going in no time. I was so proud! I think Aaron would be proud too!!! Susan took a picture of me grilling away so I'll post those once I get them.

Lunch was great and Logan enjoyed playing with all the kids. They were chasing some poor squirrel they found in the woods. Logan got in trouble more than once of OFFERING to hit people with sticks! I say it that way because he really did offer, "you want me to hit you with this stick!" He is Aaron's child through and through! At least he asked...I guess...eeehhhh...maybe not!
SFC T's (Aaron's platoon sergeant) birthday was today. So his wife had brought a cake for us to enjoy in celebration of his birthday. So we all stood around and took a picture of all the 3rd platoon wives and kids blowing out his candles. I think Logan did most of the blowing of the candles. So happy birthday SFC T!
After these festivities Logan and I headed over to the train for a ride. Logan is not a fan of loud noises so he holds his ears quiet frequently. He was so scared the train would whistle and "it would be to loud!" He rode this train before but the ears still remained covered through 3/4 of the ride! So I should never have to worry about him playing loud annoying music or going to crazy rock concerts...right?

As we were on our way out he saw the carousel...aka the roller coaster as Logan called it...so we had to stop. You have to remember that Logan is my conservative one. He's not the climber or the dare devil. And being on a moving horse is not his cup of tea. But the carousel did look fun. His aunt Sharon spoiled him when she was here two summers ago and sat on the bench with him. Which was fine and he loved it. So last year there I was sitting on the bench with him! This year, there would be no bench. He has to conquer his fears at some point. So I grabbed him up despite his insisting on the bench and put him on a horse. He wasn't crying but he wasn't happy with me. He held onto that pole for dear life and would not let me turn loose of him. By the end of the ride he was still squeezing that pole but as long as I had one hand near him he was fine. Of course once he was down and on solid earth he exclaimed, "that was fun mom!" Call me mean but I firmly believe you have to work past your fears. You never know when you might miss out on the best things in life!
The first one is before we started...he was not happy that I was not holding on to him while I took the picture! But the second one is while we were moving. At least I got a smile!

So after we left we picked Lane up. He had been at the daycare that they offer one Saturday a month. He was excited to see us. We headed home and have been lazy ever since. Logan had his guitar our a little bit ago and when he put it up he left one of the picks outs. Well this is what I saw!

Quiet the observant little thing! Yes that is a spatula and he has the pick in his hand. He was playing the guitar. What was even funnier was the song on the TV...cartoons of course...was singing about making music out of anything! Well he did!!!!!
Aaron called this morning. What a wonderful wake up call. I had not talked to him in a while so it was so nice to hear his voice. And even better to find out that he has made a very small start to his journey home. He will have many stops along his way home to us but that's 1 down!!!!!!! He's really coming home...it almost seems unreal. Today is 9 months since he left. This is the longest I have gone without him. He came home for R&R just shy of 8 months the last time. This last month has by far been the hardest. Even with all the craziness of March and May! I think just because I know its getting close and I'm getting so anxious. I just want to see him. I just want to hug him. I'm not really a crier but I can almost promise you that I will shed a few tears when I first lay eyes on him. Especially when I see the joy in this little 4 year old eyes! I don't care if we make a spectacle. I just want my family complete again!!!!
