Happy Birthday Little Lane

Today my baby turned 1!!! Wow I can't believe that a year ago tonight I was sitting in the hospital just staring at his beautiful face thanking God for our tiny little miracle. Lane blessed us with his presence at 5:22PM on a rather warm (for Alaska!) March day. I always tell the story that Lane was not ready to greet the world. He was nice and cosy where he was and was in no rush to get out in the snowy cold! Can't say that I blame him. Lane arrived one day short of his due date and even after my water broke he decided to continue to stay where he was! I was actually able to get up and have a shower. Get completely dressed; down to my makeup! And then Aaron and I got some Burger King before heading to the hospital. It was pretty pleasant! Aaron and I did start to get irritated when the doctors wanted me to walk, and walk, and walk to try to bring on the contractions. Well Lane wasn't budging and it took a little Pitosin (sp?) to get him moving. But once that got started about 2 hours later he made his presence known. Unlike his brother, Lane was screaming. One of sweetest little sounds I have ever heard. He continued to scream until I held him. Those big beautiful eyes just looking up at me. There is nothing like that feeling. Brings tears to my eyes even now! He was perfect, 10 little fingers, and 10 little toes. Two crooked pinkies just like his Daddy and brother!

This is me holding Lane for the first time right after he was born.
I did have to work today and because Wednesdays are crazy I forced myself to go! I would have loved to have spent the day with Lane but he was going to be staying with Heather so I knew he would still be getting some one on one time and would get spoiled! Logan went to school and on my way to drop him off Aaron called. We chatted for a while which was nice. Made me late for work...haha! Thankfully they are wonderful and understand! Aaron was doing good and it was nice to joke and laugh with him on the phone. It always brightens my day!

I showed everyone the pictures of Lane's collarbone. Everyone was amazed just as I was that the ER doctor missed something so obvious. I got off work around 5 and then picked up the boys. We called Amy and the kids to have Lane's birthday dinner with us. Since Lane doesn't really care where we eat Logan chose for us. KFC. After dinner we had birthday ice cream. Lane loved that! Amy, Logan, and Abby came over afterwards. The boys took off upstairs and watched Logan's new Ben 10 movie and Abby and Lane played downstairs. Lane has become a little pro at dealing with one arm strapped down. It doesn't slow him down a bit. He's walking, crawling, and even climbing all with one arm. To tell you the truth he's scaring the crap out of me because I keep thinking he's going to fall and really hurt himself more. But I don't know how to slow him down! Not sure how much my nerves will handle. Maybe I will just get him bubble wrap for his birthday!!!! Aaron was able to call for just a few minutes tonight. He wanted to wish Lane a happy birthday since he didn't get to talk to him this morning. Lane was just grinning at the phone. It's so sweet. I know he recognizes his voice. When he sees people in uniform he will stare them down like he's looking for his Daddy. I don't think he will have any trouble remembering Aaron when he gets home. He was pretty tired and went straight to bed after Amy left. He fell right to sleep so hopefully this will be a good night for him.

Logan is still up with me. Why I can't tell you but he is. He's so tired but he wants to "stay up with Mommy!" So yes, I'm a sucker for those sweet little eyes and I give in. Oh well maybe he will sleep later in the morning! Yeah right! Who am I kidding!

This was our first family picture together after we had Lane. My mom took this when she came for her visit in May 2008. Logan was 3 and Lane was 2 1/2 months. Logan was mad for some reason!
