Yes, Broken!

Lane had a rough night. He couldn't get comfy in his bed so I put him in bed with me. I had fixed Logan's bed, finally, so that he wouldn't be in the bed as well...I didn't want Logan bumping Lane in the middle of the night! Lane was sleeping on his left side but every time he would try to roll over he would wake up and start crying. I knew something wasn't right. As soon as the hospital opened today I started calling to get him in. They couldn't see him until 3PM but at least I was getting to see a pediatric doctor. When we get there Lane was in a good mood. He did have some swelling around his right collarbone but over all seemed to be feeling well. He would even giggle when I touched his shoulder. I even started to think that maybe I was over reacting. But as soon as the doctor walked in she noticed the swelling. When she touched his right collarbone she immediately said, "yes, it's broken, I just felt it move." Tough little Lane barely let out a whimper when she examined him but my eyes were filled with tears. Mainly from knowing how much he had to be hurting but I also became furious with the ER doctor. The doctor today didn't even need an xray to say what was wrong yet the ER doctor tried to make me feel like an over reacting mom. (Don't worry, my complaint for her is already in the works!) The doctor did order xrays and sure enough he has a broken collarbone. She did say that it was in the best spot for a broken collarbone but unfortunately there is really nothing they can do for it. Since he is so small none of the slings will fit. She said I could try to position his arm but he will most likely fight it (I did try and she was right...he fights it!). She said he would restrict himself simply because it hurts so now we just have to give it time...and Motrin. Poor baby! He's such the little trooper. He is playing and even trying to crawl some. He is having trouble pulling up on things. He doesn't like to push with that arm at all. He will raise it up and down but he still won't move it across his body. My poor boy, not even 1 yet and already has his first broken bone...from his own brother. I seriously have my hands full!
Here you can see the swelling at the collarbone area. It's a little bit red too.

And no, this isn't just a bad picture it really looks like this. He was crying because I wouldn't let him hold the camera!
